The focus of creating this website and the content was to learn and discover more about a couple of Mississippi’s greatest challenges, which are food insecurity and health-related issues. Through their investigations, the students uncovered stories about farmer’s markets trying to bridge the gap of food insecurity, farmers trying to make a living off sustainable gardening, people struggling to find healthy food because of a lack of a grocery store nearby, and locals trying to stay fit in one of the most unhealthy counties. Through these four stories, we see the challenges Mississippians face, but we also learn of the courage and strength of people trying to change things for the better, one step at a time.
About the Project
Meet Our Faculty and Students
We are a group of students from the University of Mississippi studying journalism. Guided by our professors, Dr. Debora R. Wenger and Dr. Iveta Imre, we have spent the Spring 2020 semester crafting these stories. Along the way, we have also learned important skills, especially how to collaborate and work with multimedia tools.
